Catch-up vaccination – an ongoing safety net to reduce immunity gaps across the life course
The IA2030 Working Group for Life Course and Integration held a webinar series on life course and integration earlier this year, with a third session that focused on catch up vaccination. The Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) aims to ensure that all people benefit from recommended immunizations throughout the life course, integrated with essential health services. The third session of this series showcased examples from immunization programmes that have been successfully working toward an integrated life course approach to vaccination.
Catch-up vaccination refers to vaccinating an individual who is missing doses for which they are eligible per the national immunization schedule. Many countries are missing opportunities to provide catch-up vaccination. The World Health Organization (WHO) published recommendations and guidance for catch-up vaccination here. View the presentation slides on the webinar "Catch-up vaccination – an ongoing safety net to reduce immunity gaps across the life course," where catch up vaccination is explained in detail, recommendations are offered to integrate catch up vaccination into campaigns and programs, and a list of resources for catch up vaccination provided.
Is there a catch up vaccination policy in your context? What are the biggest struggles to implementing catch up vaccination in your context? What is one thing you learned from this presentation that you could potentially implement in your work?
