From Kenya to India, Transportation Hubs are Primed for COVID-19 Vaccines
During the COVID-19 pandemic, initiatives like the USAID MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity program in Kenya and India, focused on safeguarding transportation workers, recognizing their crucial role in maintaining essential services. Partnering with organizations like the Boda Boda Association (BAK) in Kenya and the Transport Corporation of India Foundation (TCIF) in India, these efforts aimed to increase vaccine acceptance and uptake among motorcycle taxi drivers and bus/truck drivers. By bringing vaccination services directly to transport hubs and leveraging existing relationships within the transportation community, these initiatives effectively addressed hesitancy and logistical challenges, ultimately protecting countless workers and passengers against COVID-19 while highlighting the importance of community involvement in public health interventions.
