Dr. Mahmudul Hasan Faisal, the Surveillance and Immunization Medical Officer for the World Health Organization's Essential Programme on Immunization in Bangladesh, provides technical assistance across the nation to medical and government staff and assists with the surveillance of immunization programs and vector-borne diseases. His most recent efforts include mobilizing the government to introduce the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine - a behemoth task that involves training vaccinators and healthcare professionals, as well as monitoring the data quality and data reporting.

Phase II of the Boost Community and World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Recovery for Routine Immunization Programs Fellowship began last November with the selection of 60 Fellows for the mentorship program (from the 330 strategic proposals submitted). These Fellows will be supported by Boost, WHO, and immunization experts as they move their strategic proposals from ideation to implementation. The program will continue until the end of April, when Fellows will submit their final reports and receive a certificate of achievement.

Boosting Leadership to Advance Life Course Immunization, the 7-week live course, offered by the Boost Community, in partnership with Adaptive Change Advisors and People Power Health and with technical support from BCL, leaders of Immunization Academy, successfully concluded on November 30.

The course, with 267 active participants and 122 certified completers from 52 countries, focused on enhancing technical knowledge in Life Course Immunization and nurturing adaptive leadership and community organizing skills.

NEW WEBINAR SERIES: LEVERAGING GRANT SUCCESSES FOR IMMUNIZATION & PHC OPTIMIZATION

Since 2013, the Solina Centre for International Development and Research (SCIDaR) has supported six states in Nigeria with the lowest immunization rates to make steady progress (an aggregate 138% improvement in DPT-3 - NICS/MICS by 2023).

From February 15 to March 14, Boost will host SCIDaR and other partners to share learnings along three foundational pillars of the intervention critical to the success of the innovation and subsequent Primary Health Care (PHC) service uptake, namely: Health Financing (1), Capacity Building (2), and Demand Generation (3).   1. [February 15] Collaborating with Country Governments for Immunization and PHC Optimization: The MoU Financing Model: Introduces the innovative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) financing model designed to address sustainable funding needs for resource-limited settings in achieving critical health goals
  2. [February 29] Building Capacity of PHC Managers at State and Sub-state Levels: Approach and Lessons: Shares different capacity-building approaches targeted at effective PHC management and crucial quality health care delivery amongst health workers
  3. [March 14] Utilizing Community Resources for Driving Immunization and PHC Service Demand: Discusses the demand generation journey for RI and PHC services as well as the different approaches aimed to improve service uptake in the most resistant communities

JANUARY IS CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

In October 2023, Sabin launched the Global HPV Consortium - a public-private movement to prevent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection and eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern. Since then the Consortium has been growing exponentially with now more than 75 partners and counting. To mark Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Consortium launched its 2024 - 2026 Action Plan around four main strategic areas: Global Advocacy & Thought Leadership; Knowledge Management & Exchange; Convening Key Stakeholders; & County-Based Support.
