ELEVATING WOMEN IN IMMUNIZATION

Alawiyatu Usman Ibrahim, the Gender Equality Focal Person with the Primary Health Care Development Agency in Bauchi State, Nigeria, has dedicated her career to improving the health and education of women and girl in her region. We highlight her work conducting a gender assessment throughout Bauchi State and implementing a women's support group aimed at improving rates of immunization and maternal health.

 

COVID-19 RECOVERY FOR ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMS FELLOWSHIP PHASE I CONCLUDES

Nearly 1,000 Anglophone and Francophone participants of the Boost Community and World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Recovery for Routine Immunization Programs Fellowship engaged in Phase I of the comprehensive program. Fellows from 50 countries collectively submitted 330 strategic proposals for consideration to move onto Phase II of the Fellowship. Sixty Fellows will be chosen for Phase II and will receive mentorship from immunization experts as they implement their immunization programs in their local settings.

LAUNCH OF BOOSTING LEADERSHIP TO ADVANCE LIFE COURSE IMMUNIZATION

The Boost Community, in partnership with Adaptive Change Advisors and People Power Health and with technical support from BCL, leaders of Immunization Academy, launched its new course, Boosting Leadership to Advance Life Course Immunization, on October 19. This 7-week, live, interactive and integrated course will build technical knowledge and understanding of Life Course Immunization as well as equip participants with the adaptive leadership and community organizing skills needed to identify and respond to opportunities and challenges in developing and implementing a life course program. See the graphic below for a breakdown of this cohort’s participants!

In addition, Sabin recently highlighted an article by Boost's Senior Director of Global Learning and Engagement, Nahad Sadr-Azodi, called, Building Awareness of Life-Course Immunization. In the article, Nahad reflects on the technical and adaptive challenges of building life course immunization programs, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and expands on the new approaches to life course that the Boost Community and Sabin are engaging in, especially through the Boosting Leadership to Advance Life Course Immunization training.

RESULTS OF BOOST'S RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS (RSV) SURVEY

The Boost Community recently conducted a community-wide survey in English and French to better understand Boost members’ knowledge of and attitudes towards Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) to determine the readiness of some low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to introduce the RSV vaccine. Over 300 members responded to the survey.
