Published on January 12, 2024

From March 1-3, 2022, the Sabin Vaccine Institute hosted the Vaccine Acceptance Research Network (VARN) 2022 conference, which brought together 750+ global experts across 76 countries to share, explore and learn about the intersection of immunization and social and behavioral research. From these covenings, Sabin supported the funding of supplements developed by members of the VARN Network.

The collection of research articles, published in the BMC Proceedings, explores various aspects of vaccine delivery, acceptance, and COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Authored by experts such as Baldeep K. Dhaliwal and Rajeev Seth, the articles delve into topics like community-oriented approaches for strengthening vaccine delivery and acceptance, social network analysis of COVID-19 vaccine YouTube videos in India, online signals analysis in Eastern and Southern Africa, and behavioral and social drivers of COVID-19 vaccination in health workers. The studies also cover innovative methodologies, such as using community theater to improve vaccination demand in Nigeria. Additionally, the collection includes insights on countering COVID-19 misinformation in Pakistan and examines the evolution of vaccine hesitancy in Sub-Saharan Africa. The research highlights the global effort to understand and address challenges in vaccination, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
