Boost Partner Spotlight: IPA Vaccine Trust Project

The following information was provided from the International Pediatric Association, a professional association that focuses on promoting physical, mental, and social health for all children. The course, listed below, is being hosted in collaboration with Sabin Vaccine Institute. 


IPA VACCINE TRUST PROJECT

In an effort to equip healthcare workers to advocate for recommended vaccinations and create resilient public health communication ecosystems, the International Pediatric Association has created the Vaccine Trust Project. This project has 4 main objectives: 

  1. To engage and empower healthcare workers, by improving effective communication skills pertaining to vaccination
  2. To assist and provide leadership and policy advice to building out nationwide messaging to the public, media, politicians and decision-makers
  3. To engage and train healthcare workers to become influencers in their communities and on social media, so they can be recognized as go-to experts on immunization 
  4. Build a community of practice, share knowledge, best practices through a Global Vaccine Trust Leadership Forum 

A portion of this work is in the form of a course - the Vaccine Trust Course - that looks to give healthcare workers an effective voice through different media channels. 

IPA Vaccine Trust Course 

This course aims to increase and utilize the communication and advocacy skillsets of healthcare professionals providing or promoting vaccines and immunization.

Who can apply for the course?

Pediatricians, Other Healthcare Professionals, Nurses, Midwives, Physician’s Assistants, Other Healthcare Worker, Program Mangers, Public Health Professionals, or Student (Medical, Nurses and Others)

In what languages is the course available? 

The course is available in English, Spanish, Russian, French, Portuguese, and Turkish for the participants. Chinese and Arabic versions to be out soon

What is the course duration?

The participant would require 8-10 hrs of individual time to complete the course and will be given the span of 2-3 weeks for completion of the course. The participant will be able to attempt the course in multiple sittings

While appearing for the course, participants will learn to: 

  • Understand the problem of vaccine hesitancy with the help of evidence-based principles of behavioral science
  • Use a behavior-centered approach to build trust and increase the effectiveness of their conversations with patients and/or their caregivers related to vaccine hesitancy
  • Influence policy or build an enabling environment with a broad group of stakeholder to effect change using basics of advocacy and messaging
  • Develop a presence on social media and become an influencer using evidence-based strategies for inoculating people against vaccine misinformation
  • Respond effectively to media requests & engage proactively with journalists and deal with vocal vaccine deniers to support balanced reporting & a positive tone
  • Use the strategies to fight Infodemic of misinformation

Global Leadership Forum 

As the next step, following the course, the trained participants will be invited to join the Global Vaccine Trust Leadership Forum – A Community of Practice to interact, share knowledge and best practices and discuss issues and strategies to address the problems related to vaccine hesitancy. This platform will include a vaccine misinformation surveillance and response mechanism to monitor the impact of misinformation on the public trust, i.e. low impact, moderate impact, or high impact and developing the response based upon the impact of misinformation and finally mobilizing the cadre of the HCWs to mitigate the adverse impact through evidence-based messaging with a coordinated response.
