The Sabin Vaccine Institute (Sabin) has delivered investigational Marburg vaccines to Rwanda to combat a deadly outbreak. The initial batch of 700 doses, followed by 1,000 more, is being used to vaccinate frontline healthcare workers in an open-label study. The outbreak, declared on September 27, has caused 46 infections and 12 deaths. Sabin's vaccine, based on the cAd3 platform, has shown promise in ongoing trials, with no safety concerns reported. Sabin's rapid response was supported by global partnerships, including Rwanda's Biomedical Centre and BARDA.

There are several barriers to HPV vaccine uptake among rural mothers in Nigeria, where cervical cancer remains a significant health threat. A study led by Boost member Dr. Chinedu Iwu found that low awareness, negative attitudes, and socio-cultural factors contribute to the low vaccination rates, with only 11% of eligible children vaccinated. However, 37% of mothers expressed willingness to vaccinate if better informed. The findings emphasize the need for targeted educational campaigns to overcome these barriers and improve vaccine uptake.
